Plant Cell Transformations

 

Plant cells are transformed when they are brought into contact with needle-like materials carrying DNA.  A special grade of our Silar® silicon carbide microfibers is ideal for use in this application.  When contacted by the microfiber, the cell is impaled.  The result is a breach in the cell wall which allows DNA previously bound onto the microfiber surface to enter into the cell.  Biograde Silar® silicon carbide microfibers can be treated with DNA and used as messenger needles to transform plant cells.
